We kind of just noticed this place yesterday, looked it up, and decided that we needed to eventually try it out. What used to be a worn out breastaurant is now a very happy and chic new space with a pretty exciting menu for the area – think New Orleans+. And while they didn’t have gator or beignets on the menu (at least not right now), it definitely brought me right back to a place I can’t wait to revisit. We definitely couldn’t try everything that looked exciting in one sitting, but we began with pork belly lollipops that tasted like the best bacon ever crossed with tender and smoky not-yet-pulled pork. Frank went on to have low country grilled chicken topped with gravy and warm cornbread, while I enjoyed a thick and hot side order of Louisiana gumbo complete with okra, shrimp, and and andouille sausage, a side of warm cornbread with sweet, softened butter, a side of red beans and rice, and Frank’s Mexican street corn side that he shyed away from due to the beautiful green color (and his loss was definitely my gain, because the corn was juicy and sweet with a cheesy herb taste to the rub on top of it). Frank was too full for dessert, but I insisted on trying the bananas foster cheese cake, and while I couldn’t finish it, it had levels of flavor from banana to toasted caramel, and the whipped cream on top tasted fresh! While I wasn’t looking for a drink, their drink menu seemed like it would be absolutely adequate for anyone who was, and they had a ton of tap heads at the bar. Our server, Kevin, was friendly and informative. The restaurant was almost empty while we were there, but mostly because of our weird, mid-afternoon timing, I’m sure. There were at least three pianos that I noticed, and we were told that there is a ‘dueling pianos’ show once a month, which we will definitely be at this month. I’m so excited to find these flavors and options close to home – all created by a real New Orleans Chef – Chef Christopher Noble – using local, fresh ingredients. This is a restaurant that I hope everyone will try as soon as possible, because I selfishly need it to be this awesome for a long time to come.
